I have moved all my software development system to ArchLinux from Ubuntu. Why?
The primary reason of change is because Ubuntu 22.04 installed on my MacBook Pro was having memory leaks of almost 6GB and I coudn't find what was causing it. I tried kernels from 5.13 to the recent 6.0 but this problem just persisted.
Arch Linux based distro Endeavour OS just takes less than 2GB RAM if when I have Firefox, Chrome, and a couple of other applications open. See screeshot below:-
I loved the easiness of
sudo apt but both
aur are much better. Just run
yay and the whole system gets updated (rather upgraded) in a breeze.
If you have read my earlier post related to how to install older rubies on Ubuntu 22.04 using RVM then you know about me already that I am Linux geek sort of, and have been fiddling with different Unix flavours since 2001.
In EndeavourOS there was no need to install different versions of OpenSSL in order to install and run different rubies. Both Ruby versions 3.1.2 and 3.0.4 installed in a jiffy with plain vanilla
rvm installed from rvm.io. See screenshot below:-
OpenSSL version is 1.1.1.
